The United States has published a new national defense strategy.
Modern.az has noted the main points in the document:
- Russia remains "a persistent but manageable threat" for NATO's eastern members.
- Moscow is reportedly not in a position to strive for European hegemony. In Europe, NATO countries are significantly ahead of Russia in terms of economic productivity, population, and consequently, latent military power.
- U.S. NATO allies are in a favorable position to assume primary responsibility for Europe's defense with critical but more limited U.S. support.
- Unlike the 2022 strategy, which identified the "threat" posed by China as the primary U.S. defense priority, the new 34-page document calls for deterring Beijing "through strength, not confrontation."
- In the new strategy, the Pentagon states that it ensures "U.S. military and commercial access to key territories, particularly the Panama Canal, the Gulf of America, and Greenland."
