Some figures regarding civilian casualties in the Russia-Ukraine war have been released.

In 2025, at least 2,919 civilians were killed and another 17,775 were injured in Ukraine as a result of shelling and attacks on both sides of the front line.

Modern.az reports that these data were provided by the CIT volunteer group, which has been collecting information on civilian casualties since the autumn of 2023.

Compared to 2024, the number of fatalities increased by 12%, and the number of injured by more than 25%. Despite public statements regarding negotiations and the desire for peace, the intensity of attacks did not decrease throughout the year, reaching the highest levels recorded to date in some months. In nine out of twelve months, the total number of killed and injured exceeded 1,550. The deadliest months were April, June, and July.

In 2025, 79% of all deaths and injuries occurred in territories controlled by the Ukrainian government. There, 16,300 injuries were recorded, including 2,348 fatalities. In the occupied territories of Ukraine, 298 people were killed and 1,751 were injured, while in Russia, 273 people were killed and 2,072 were injured.

According to UN data, last year was the deadliest year for civilians in Ukraine since 2022.

Among the most affected regions were Donetsk Oblast, where 756 people died, and Kherson Oblast, with the highest number of injured (2,903 people). In the Kyiv metropolitan area and Kyiv Oblast, 184 people were killed and another 1,151 were injured. In the occupied territories, the highest number of casualties was recorded in Donetsk and Kherson regions. In Russia, the most affected region was Belgorod Oblast, with 134 people killed and 1,202 injured.

In 2025, most casualties were related to the use of drones. Drone attacks resulted in 1,376 deaths and 10,089 injuries, which is more than all other types of weapons combined. Compared to 2024, the number of drone-related deaths increased by approximately 2.9 times, and the number of injured by more than three times. Missile attacks resulted in 472 deaths and 3,108 injuries, aerial bomb attacks in 481 deaths and 2,167 injuries, and artillery shelling in 483 deaths and 2,190 injuries.

The deadliest incidents of the year were missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, including Kryvyi Rih, Sumy, Dnipro, and Ternopil. Specifically, the attack on Ternopil on November 19 resulted in 38 deaths, including eight children.
