Questions regarding the “post-Erdoğan” era in Turkish politics have been discussed for many years in closed cabinets and backstage writings. Recently, this question has also been brought into the open media.

Nevertheless, Bilal Erdoğan's current profile does not align with the trajectory of a classic politician. He is neither at the forefront of party platforms nor election campaigns. On the contrary, his name is more frequently associated with foundations, universities, and international cultural platforms.

Modern.az has investigated who Bilal Erdoğan, Erdoğan's younger son and designated heir, is.

Bilal Erdoğan completed his secondary education at Kartal Anatolian Imam Hatip High School in Istanbul. This school is known in Turkey as a center that encompasses secular subjects alongside religiously oriented education, and trains numerous personnel for state administration, politics, and academia. The Imam Hatip stage created an environment where Bilal Erdoğan became acquainted with religious terminology and came into contact with Islamic culture and traditional values from an early age. However, his subsequent educational path indicates that he did not remain within this framework.

After secondary education, Bilal Erdoğan went to the USA for higher education and studied at Indiana University. Official biographical information states that he primarily studied in economics and management-oriented fields there. He continued his academic education in 2004 with a Master's degree in Public Administration at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. Currently, he is working on his doctoral dissertation in European Studies at Johns Hopkins University, focusing on the economic growth models of Italy and Turkey.

In Bilal Erdoğan's speeches, “values”, “tradition”, “roots”, and “cultural heritage” come to the forefront. As an example, in 2024, at the 7th forum of Ethnosport, which he heads, he emphasized that their activities focus on values as well as sports.

Bilal Erdoğan's activities have primarily been shaped through educational and foundation structures. Through the TÜRGEV foundation, known in Turkey for its work in youth and education, he supports young people through student dormitories, scholarship programs, and social projects.

The academic continuation of this line is Ibn Haldun University. Bilal Erdoğan serves on the university's Board of Trustees. This higher education institution, focused on social sciences, stands out with its international academic staff, instruction in foreign languages, and aspiration for a global perspective. The university's concept is explicitly built upon “training a new generation of intellectual and administrative personnel”.

Bilal Erdoğan's most prominent international role is his activity as the president of the World Ethnosport Confederation. The Confederation presents traditional sports such as archery, equestrianism, and wrestling as elements of cultural heritage and organizes events encompassing dozens of countries.

This activity combines cultural diplomacy alongside pure sport, uniting peoples. Concepts such as the Turkic world, shared history, and alternative modernity form the main ideological framework of these events.

His father, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has not made open and direct statements regarding Bilal Erdoğan's political future. This keeps him in the status of a potential figure. However, in statements by some influential individuals from the family circle, the Erdoğan family's “reserved and measured” lifestyle is emphasized. Bilal Erdoğan's wife Reyyan Uzuner's father, Orhan Uzuner, used these expressions regarding the Erdoğan family in an interview with the newspaper "Milliyet": “Mr. Bilal Erdoğan is an extremely humble person who works for Turkey. We find comfort in his presence,” he noted.

Bilal Erdoğan married Reyyan Uzuner in 2003. Their acquaintance occurred through traditional family mediation. Reyyan Uzuner is someone who, in the media, prefers family life and does not come to the forefront in socio-political processes.

The couple has three children: Ömer Tayyip, Ali Tahir, and Fatma Serra.

Regarding Erdoğan's personal interests, there is little open and systematic information about his hobbies. However, in the context of his activities, it is clear that he shows particular interest in traditional sports and the topic of cultural heritage.
