A criminal case has been opened against Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, and his departure from the country has been prohibited.
Modern.az reports that his lawyer, Ara Zohrabyan, provided information on this matter.
He noted that this is related to the accusation of obstructing the execution of a court decision regarding the dismissal of Arman Saroyan. Previously, charges were brought against 6 high-ranking church officials in this case, and their departure from the country was also prohibited.
The lawyer stated that this is directly related to the authorities' attempts to disrupt the Council of Bishops to be held in Austria. Zohrabyan called the accusations against the Catholicos a historical and shameful act by the authorities, as well as a direct interference in the internal affairs of the Church.
