Armenian Prime Minister Anna Hakobyan's social media post has attracted attention.

Thus, Hakobyan announced that they had ended their civil marriage with Nikol Pashinyan.

"I inform you that my civil marriage with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has ended. I ask for your discretion and courtesy," she wrote.

According to the Armenian newspaper "Hraparak", the couple entered into a formal marriage. "They went to the VVAQ and officially got married," the newspaper wrote.

It should be recalled that the couple, who have been in a civil marriage for 29 years, have 4 children.

In world politics, the family model is not only a personal matter but also a factor of image, legitimacy, and security. Nevertheless, throughout history and in modern times, there have been heads of state who lived together for a long time without a formal marriage.

Modern.az has investigated current heads of state and government living in civil marriage and historical analogues.

Former President of France François Hollande

François Hollande was not in a formal marriage during his presidency (2012–2017). He lived in a civil union with journalist Valérie Trierweiler, and this relationship was openly confirmed. In the French legal system, non-marital unions (including PACS) are accepted as a social norm.

Former Prime Minister of Ireland Leo Varadkar

The former Prime Minister of Ireland openly confirmed that he had lived with his partner Matthew Barrett in a non-marital union for many years. The relationship was public and not hidden. Although he later made statements about marriage plans, he was not in a formal marriage during his premiership.

Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir

The former Prime Minister of Iceland lived with her partner for a long time without a formal marriage. She later entered into a formal marriage after the legislation in the country changed. Her relationship was open and public.

Xavier Bettel

Luxembourg's Prime Minister Bettel also openly stated that he lived with his partner in a non-marital union at the beginning of his political career. He later entered into a formal marriage.

It should be noted that certain claims are also made in this regard concerning Russian President Vladimir Putin

Information about Putin, who separated from his wife in 2013, being in a relationship with former gymnast Alina Kabaeva has been circulating in the media for years. However, the Kremlin has provided neither official confirmation nor open denial regarding this. Therefore, this situation is not considered a officially confirmed civil marriage, but merely a claim.

Among leaders who lived in civil marriage throughout history, the most famous figure is Adolf Hitler. He lived with Eva Braun for many years without a formal marriage. Their relationship was not public and was kept secret for a long time. The formal marriage was concluded only on April 29, 1945, in the Berlin bunker. The next day, both committed suicide.

Thus, although Hitler effectively lived in a civil marriage, he entered into a formal marriage on the last day of his life.
