U.S. President Donald Trump's tough stance on Iran and the plan to increase military forces in the Middle East have intensified political discussions within the country.

Modern.az reports that, according to Reuters, Trump has given instructions to prepare for a possible multi-week air operation, but has not provided the U.S. public with a concrete justification for war with Iran.

One White House official stated that there is no unified position within the administration regarding striking Iran. Some of Trump's advisors, however, emphasize the importance of focusing more on economic issues that concern voters – inflation, cost of living, and social problems. The midterm elections in November will determine whether Republicans can maintain their majority in Congress.

In his latest statement, Trump called on Iran for a “fair agreement” regarding its nuclear program, stating that otherwise, a strike could be launched. The U.S. had targeted Iran's nuclear facilities in June, and Tehran has declared that it will respond harshly to possible new attacks.

Analysts believe that a large-scale conflict with Iran is politically risky for Trump. Polls show that the main priority for American voters is not foreign policy, but economic stability. Therefore, a possible escalation could create difficulties for Republicans on the eve of the midterm elections.
