We must protect the interests of our citizens, including their labor interests. This is an accepted international practice – every country protects the interests of its citizens. We have determined in which areas foreigners can work and in which areas it is not expedient.
Modern.az reports that these statements were made by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
"This is important so that our citizens do not face excessive competition in terms of employment. According to the decision, quotas have been established, including the application of zero quotas in some cases. This means that specific areas have been identified where no one will be able to compete with Georgian citizens in terms of employment. I believe we have been able to protect the labor interests of our citizens to the maximum extent possible,” the Prime Minister added.
It should be noted that the government has adopted a decision on the approval of the procedure for granting foreigners the right to engage in labor activities. A zero quota has been set for courier services and passenger transportation activities.
More precisely, the decision signed by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and dated February 20 will come into force on March 1, 2026.
According to the decision, annual quotas have been established for the following professions and labor/entrepreneurial activities:
a) labor/entrepreneurial activity related to courier services – annual quota 0;
b) labor/entrepreneurial activity related to passenger transportation – annual quota 0;
c) labor/entrepreneurial activity related to providing guide services for tourists – annual quota 0;
d) labor/entrepreneurial activity related to mountain, mountaineering, and ski guiding services for tourists – annual quota 200.
