More than 200,000 Russian servicemen have died in the war with Ukraine.

Modern.az reports, based on data confirmed by Mediazona and BBC, that in terms of casualties, 2025 was the bloodiest year for the Russian army. The names of 49,935 Russian servicemen who died last year have been confirmed, but due to delays in data entry, there are still tens of thousands of records in the obituary database.

Of those who died, 122,700 servicemen were urban residents, and 57,200 were rural residents. Large cities and towns with a population of over one million were "almost unaffected by the war": two-thirds of the deceased lived in cities with a population of less than 100,000.

In terms of the absolute number of deaths, Bashkortostan (7.7 thousand), Tatarstan (6.8 thousand), and Sverdlovsk Oblast (6.3 thousand) top the list.
