At least 22 people have lost their lives due to heavy rains in the southeastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.
Modern.az reports that the state's fire service has confirmed 16 deaths in the city of Juiz de Fora and 6 deaths in the city of Uba.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva offered condolences via X (Twitter) and drew attention to issues of humanitarian aid, restoration of services, and support for displaced persons.
The Brazilian government declared a state of emergency for Juiz de Fora, accelerating aid and rescue efforts. The country's National Institute of Meteorology issued heavy rain warnings for 14 states, including Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. (Reuters)
