US President Donald Trump wants to achieve a peace agreement in Ukraine by July 4 this year – the 250th anniversary of US Independence.
Modern.az reports that the “Bloomberg” Agency wrote about this. However, the agency also noted that there are no signs or signals that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to make concessions and agree to the proposed terms.
Russia, Ukraine, and US negotiations have already been suspended several times, and even several high-ranking American representatives have admitted in private conversations that they have seen no signs that Putin is ready to abandon his demands. Three rounds of trilateral talks held this year in Abu Dhabi and Geneva have not yielded any significant results. At the same time, Ukraine's European allies continue to remain isolated from the negotiation process, even though they are primarily the ones funding the process of acquiring weapons and ammunition for Kyiv after US President Trump halted American aid to Ukraine. Although the negotiations formally continue and are called "constructive," in reality, they have reached an impasse.
The article states that “Moscow and Washington are competing over who will surrender first in talks led by US special envoy Steven Witkoff and advisor Jared Kushner. This means that either Russia will have to abandon some of its “red lines,” including establishing control over all of Donbas, or the US will abandon Ukraine.”
It is noted that the main issue for Ukraine and its allies is for Putin to officially agree to a ceasefire and allow Trump to declare success. However, even if he agrees to a ceasefire, Russia is expected to continue its hybrid warfare and sabotage campaign.
According to the agency, the conclusion is singular: as long as Putin is in power in Russia and Russians have the means to continue the war, it will persist. Even persistent financial and economic problems will not be able to force the Kremlin to make significant concessions.
