An armed clash occurred near the headquarters of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran.
Modern.az reports that local Telegram channels disseminated information about this.
According to the information, clashes erupted between members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Marxist “Mujahedin-e Khalq” (MEK) organization. MEK's statement claims that at least 100 people were killed or detained. The organization also claimed that more than 150 of its members returned to their bases.
It is noted that the incident mainly occurred in the Motahhari complex area in Tehran, a zone where the supreme leader's headquarters, the Guardian Council, the Assembly of Experts, and other strategic institutions are located. The “Tasnim” agency, close to the IRGC, and the “Al Akhbar” publication also confirmed the clashes. “Al Akhbar” described the incident as “an operation that MEK attempted to carry out with the support of foreign intelligence services” and wrote that the plan was thwarted in its initial stage.
It should be noted that the “Mujahedin-e Khalq” organization is recognized as a terrorist organization by the Iranian authorities. The group supported Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s. However, the United States and the European Union later removed the organization from their terror lists.
