Modern.az reports that, according to the ministry, the sanctions also cover networks involved in acquiring materials and equipment necessary for weapons production for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Ministry of Defense.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump took this step to increase pressure on the Iranian economy. It is reported that within the framework of the sanctions, 12 “shadow fleet” vessels and their owners and operators have been targeted.
Iran, however, declares that its nuclear program is solely for civilian energy purposes. Tehran has not yet officially reacted to the new sanctions. (Reuters)
