A source stated that "there is a view within and around the administration that it would be better if the Israelis acted first and alone, and if the Iranians retaliated, giving us more reason to take action".
According to Trump administration officials, an Israeli attack would force Iran to retaliate, which would help gain the support of the American public for a military offensive.
At the same time, according to sources, despite the serious nature of the US-Iran talks, those closest to Trump believe, "we will bomb them".
Negotiators from Iran and the US will hold a new round of talks in Geneva on February 26 to discuss options for resolving Iran's nuclear issue.
The American side will be led by US Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, while the Iranian delegation will be headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
