Iran's nuclear program has once again come into the international spotlight. The United States has concentrated military aircraft and warships in the region, and it appears that Washington is ready to strike if Tehran does not agree to a deal regarding its nuclear program.

Modern.az, citing foreign media, reports that on February 19, US President Donald Trump stated that “bad consequences” await Iran if a “meaningful agreement” is not reached.

“They cannot have nuclear weapons, it's very simple… If they have nuclear weapons, it will not be possible to achieve peace in the Middle East,” the president said.

Iran claims it has never sought to create a nuclear bomb. However, many countries, as well as the leading international p overseeing the nuclear field – the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) – view this position with skepticism.

Furthermore, the current status of Iran's nuclear program is not entirely clear following the strikes on key nuclear facilities during the 12-day war between Israel and Iran in June last year.

The US joined brief military operations, striking three nuclear facilities: Iran's largest research nuclear center in Isfahan, as well as the Natanz and Fordo facilities where uranium is enriched.

After the strikes, Trump declared that these facilities were “completely destroyed.” However, a week later, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated that although the attacks caused significant damage to the facilities, they did not completely disable them. According to him, uranium enrichment could be restored within a few months.
