Italian police have arrested 50-year-old Burundian citizen Guillaume Harushimana in connection with the murder of three Italian missionary nuns in 2014 in Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi.

Modern.az reports that the Parma Prosecutor's Office issued a statement regarding this.

According to the investigation, he is suspected of involvement in the organization and logistics of the murders of Olga Racchetti (83), Lucia Pulici (75), and Bernadetta Boggian, committed on September 7–8, 2014. It is reported that the crimes were committed under the instruction of General Adolphe Nshimirimana, who was the head of Burundi's special services at that time.

The prosecutor's office indicated possible reasons for the murders as the nuns' refusal to provide medical assistance to armed groups stationed in Congo, a dispute over the financing of a youth center in the Kamenge region, or the possibility of a religious ritual.

According to the information, Italian prosecutors reopened the case in 2024. Harushimana, who came to Parma in 2018 for training, denied the charges during interrogation and stated that he was not in the country at the time of the murders. (Reuters)
