The rules implemented by the Taliban endanger the lives of women and children in Afghanistan.
Modern.az reports that Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan, provided information on this matter.
According to him, when women seek hospital care, they face requirements such as accompaniment by a male guardian, adherence to dress codes, and examination by a male doctor. In some cases, women are denied emergency services due to the absence of a male escort.
Bennett's report to the UN Human Rights Council noted that one woman gave birth at the hospital gate because she was alone, and another woman lost her child because she could not take him/her to the hospital.
The expert stated that the ban on women's medical education will reduce the number of female doctors in the future, which will further weaken the healthcare system.
Former Afghan Minister of Public Health, Suraya Dalil, expressed her concern that maternal and child mortality rates could increase during childbirth.
