The foreign ministers of the 27 member countries of the European Union (EU) held an emergency meeting in an online format to discuss recent developments concerning Iran.
Modern.az reports that the meeting was chaired by Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
The ministers assessed the attacks by the US and Israel on Iran, as well as the situation regarding the assassination of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, and sought to determine a common European position. Issues such as energy markets, regional stability, and the security of EU citizens in the region were also discussed at the meeting.
Prior to the meeting, the ambassadors of the EU countries (COREPER) also convened and called for de-escalation. Tomorrow, a special security meeting is planned to be held at the EU Commission under the leadership of Ursula von der Leyen.
In its statements to date, the EU leadership has called on all parties to exercise restraint and emphasized the importance of a stable transition process in Iran. (TRT Haber)
