On February 28, the US and Israel launched a military operation in Iran. As a result of the strikes, the country's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed. The heads of the Iranian Ministry of Defense, IRGC, General Staff, and Defense Council were also killed. In response, Iran attacked US military bases in the Persian Gulf.
Today marks the third day of the war. As a result of the war, 4 US servicemen have been killed. Additionally, 555 people have been killed on the Iranian side.
It is interesting to know how the war affects the ordinary population living in Israel?
Modern.az contacted Israeli journalist Igor Rytapel to obtain information on this matter.
In a statement to our website, the journalist stated that the Israel-Iran war is causing concern among the ordinary populace:
“The confrontation between Iran and Israel is primarily felt in the daily lives of ordinary people. People are thinking more about security, stability, and the ability to work, study, and raise their families in peace, rather than geopolitical calculations. Pressure on infrastructure is also increasing. Although state institutions strive to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity, water, and communication, the risk of temporary disruptions remains. Any escalation naturally has an immediate impact on the sense of stability”.

The Israeli journalist emphasized that if the situation deteriorates, schools and universities may switch to distance learning:
“This creates an additional burden for families and affects the educational process. The economy also reacts quickly to developments. Prices of fuel and imported goods may increase. However, markets behave more cautiously, and investors may reduce their activity. Uncertainty always increases volatility.
In the field of security, the presence of law enforcement agencies and security forces is usually strengthened, additional control measures are implemented, and regular information is provided to the public.
Public sentiment often reflects a sense of unity alongside concern. Some support a firm stance, while others emphasize the importance of diplomatic solutions to prevent the conflict from escalating.
Overall, people's expectation is one: stability and a return to normal life as soon as possible”.
The journalist added that the issue is not merely a confrontation between two countries, but a strategic and fundamental problem concerning the future of the broader regional security system:
“Viewed from a state level and through the prism of deeper processes, the issue extends to the regional security plane. The balance is considered to be severely disrupted as a result of Iran's policies.
This refers to a regime that is not accepted by a large part of the region, as well as by certain circles of the modern international community. This factor directly affects overall security and weakens mutual trust.
The strike carried out by Israel is presented as a preventive measure within the framework of international law. Because international law norms allow for preemptive measures in cases where one state poses a direct and real threat to the security of another.
As is known, the Iranian side has repeatedly openly declared its intention to eliminate Israel. Such statements not only increase tension in the region but also render the security balance more vulnerable. Thus, the issue is not merely a confrontation between two countries, but transforms into a strategic and fundamental problem concerning the future of the broader regional security system”.
