For years, Israel has been preparing an assassination attempt on Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, using extensive intelligence assets and technical services for this purpose.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that the operation involved large-scale hacker attacks on urban video surveillance systems and infiltration operations into mobile networks. Israeli intelligence agencies were able to gain access to most traffic cameras in Tehran. The footage was transmitted to servers in Israel, allowing them to monitor the movements of Khamenei's guards and the routes of high-ranking officials.
Individual cameras provided strategically important angles, recorded the parking locations of guards' vehicles, and offered information on daily life in high-security areas.
A US intelligence source within Khamenei's circle confirms information that his meeting with the military command was planned for February 28. On the day of the operation, mobile communication antennas in the area were switched off to prevent any warnings. As a result, phones in the area could not receive incoming calls. After the intelligence information was finally confirmed, up to 30 precision-guided bombs were dropped on the meeting location, leading to the deaths of Khamenei and the military commanders.
