The war flaring up in the Middle East could intensify the movement towards not only Iran but also its neighbors acquiring nuclear weapons.
Modern.az reports that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated this at a press conference held in Moscow after talks with Brunei .
According to him, the consequences of aggression against Iran are already being felt throughout the entire region:
"The steps taken by the US in the Middle East could lead to the outcome Washington is trying to prevent, namely, the creation of nuclear weapons by Iran and its neighboring countries".
The minister also emphasized that the US does not attack countries possessing nuclear weapons:
"Russia believes there are serious questions regarding the arguments put forward by the US to justify launching an operation in Iran. To date, no convincing evidence has been presented regarding Iran's development of nuclear weapons".
Lavrov added that Russia calls on all parties in the Middle East to cease military operations.
