"Forced regime change in Iran will be difficult, but the US will still achieve significant results during the current operation"
Modern.az reports that former director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) David Petraeus stated in an interview with the BBC.
"The problem is that if hundreds of thousands of armed and organized members of the regime's security forces are still there, it is extremely difficult to take control of the country," he said.
Petraeus also noted that US President Donald Trump has already openly stated that there will be no ground operation in Iran.
He added that "even without regime change in Iran, the US will achieve important goals."
David Petraeus commanded US and NATO forces in Iraq and Afghanistan and served as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 2011 to 2012.
