Israeli authorities are using cargo ships to return doctors stranded abroad following the outbreak of air warfare with Iran.

Modern.az reports that Israeli shipping company ZIM Shipping has announced that its ships are operating routes between Limassol port in Cyprus and Haifa port in Israel.

The operation is being coordinated between the Ministry of Transport, major hospitals, and the company.

To date, 40 doctors have returned on two voyages, and hundreds of medical personnel are planned to be repatriated within the week. They are returning to work to provide assistance to those injured as a result of Iranian missiles.

Officials stated that amidst the suspension of flights, this method is the easiest and most effective option. The journey takes approximately 15 hours and special conditions have been created on board for the safety of the doctors.

Following strikes by Israel and the US on Iran, the closure of airspace in the region has caused hundreds of thousands of passengers to be stranded in various countries. (Reuters)
