According to American and Israeli officials, militants from several Iranian Kurdish groups are preparing for a possible ground attack against the Tehran regime in the country's northwestern part.

Modern.az reports that the information was published by the “Axios” portal.

"Amidst the aerial bombing of Tehran by the US and Israel, a ground attack by Kurdish groups could increase pressure on the Iranian army and lead to an internal uprising that could spread to other regions.

Six days before the war began, five Kurdish groups who had taken refuge in Iraq announced the formation of the Coalition of Iranian Kurdistan Political Forces to fight against Iran. These Kurdish groups have thousands of soldiers along the Iran-Iraq border and control strategically important areas.

In recent weeks, Iranian Kurdish groups have moved hundreds of their members from camps on the Iraqi side of the border to the Iranian side in preparation for a possible attack on regime forces,” a source close to one of these groups stated.

According to two American and Israeli officials, as well as a third source familiar with the situation, Iranian Kurdish forces are supported by Mossad and the Central Intelligence Agency. An American official stated that the goal is to challenge the Iranian authorities and attempt to seize territory in the Kurdish region within Iran to inspire a broader uprising.

"The war began with the active phase of American and Israeli military operations, but as it continues, other efforts will be made by Mossad and the Central Intelligence Agency," an Israeli official stated.

The idea of supporting Iranian Kurdish groups and using them for a ground attack from Iraq into Iran initially came from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Mossad. A second American official stated that the Central Intelligence Agency later joined the initiative.

Israeli officials have promised Kurdish groups not only military but also political support for the creation of autonomy  in the event of regime collapse in Iran in the future.

According to information from the "Financial Times" newspaper, citing two sources, US President Donald Trump spoke with Iranian and Iraqi Kurdish leaders this week and clarified the US objectives in the war against Iran.

"Trump spoke with Iranian Kurdish leaders this week... Trump also spoke with Iraqi Kurdish leaders, including Bavel Tələbani, the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan... Trump clarified the US objectives in the current war," the newspaper wrote.

The newspaper also noted that US efforts to negotiate with the Kurds are a joint US-Israeli initiative.

On Wednesday, CNN, citing an unnamed official, reported that Iranian Kurdish opposition forces could participate in a ground operation in western Iran in the coming days. According to the network, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is working to arm Kurdish forces with the aim of inciting a popular uprising in Iran.

Earlier, US Secretary of War Pit Heqset refused to confirm media reports regarding plans to arm the Kurdish opposition to participate in a ground military operation against Iran.
