France's “Charles de Gaulle” aircraft carrier has entered the Mediterranean Sea via the Strait of Gibraltar amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Modern.az reports that the AFP agency disseminated information about this.
According to the information, the ship was sent to the region at the instruction of French President Emmanuel Macron. It will take several days for the aircraft carrier to reach its planned mission zone in the Eastern Mediterranean.
According to the agency's information, “Charles de Gaulle" will operate in the region with the aim of ensuring the security of citizens of France and its allies amid attacks carried out by Iran.
The French leader announced the decision to send the aircraft carrier strike group to the Mediterranean Sea on March 3. Previously, the ship was carrying out missions in the North Atlantic.
Macron also stated that security measures would be strengthened at French military bases in the Middle East and support for friendly countries in the region would be increased after Iran struck two facilities with unmanned aerial vehicles.
