As the election of a new supreme leader in Iran was being discussed, US President Donald Trump also commented on the matter.
Modern.az reports that in an interview with ABC News on Sunday, Trump stated that the new leader would not be able to remain in power for long.
"He must receive our approval. If he does not receive our approval, he will not remain in power for long. We want to ensure that we do not have to revisit this issue every 10 years," Trump emphasized.
"I do not want people to come back in five years and repeat the same thing, or worse, acquire nuclear weapons," the US President added.
When asked if he would approve someone with ties to the old regime, Trump replied: "I would like to choose a good leader, yes, I would do that. There are many people who could be suitable."
He also did not rule out sending special forces to seize Iran's enriched uranium: "Everything is on the table. Everything."
