Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on the occasion of his election as Supreme Leader of Iran.

Modern.az reports that this was stated on the Kremlin's website.

Putin's congratulatory message states: "To His Excellency Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran... please accept my sincere congratulations on the occasion of your election as Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran".
