European governments have accused European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen of overstepping her authority in the first days of military operations by the US and Israel against Iran.

Modern.az reports that the publication "Politico" writes on this matter, citing nine diplomats, EU officials, and deputies.

Several governments are dissatisfied with von der Leyen taking on a role that should typically be performed by the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas. According to the publication, in the first days of military operations, the President of the European Commission expressed support for regime change in Tehran and held at least ten telephone conversations with leaders of European Union countries, as well as Gulf states.

According to sources, she repeatedly made public statements that went significantly beyond the existing consensus among EU member states.

Diplomats stated that the coordination of the European Union's foreign policy falls precisely to Kaja Kallas. Her main task is to maintain contact with capitals and achieve the formation of a common position within the bloc, even if this process is often slow and difficult. In their opinion, von der Leyen's actions could create confusion in the EU's relations with other countries.
