“Astara” state border checkpoint continues to facilitate the evacuation of foreign diplomats. This evening, Guillermo Alejandro Puente Ordorica was safely evacuated to Azerbaijani territory.
Modern.az reports that the ambassador stated in his remarks to media representatives that Azerbaijan is a friendly country and noted the existence of bilateral relations between Mexico and Azerbaijan:
"My government has instructed me to establish our embassy here with the support of the Azerbaijani government and Azerbaijan's embassy in Mexico. That is why my team and I are here. As it seems, the situation in Iran is complex, and this is one of the reasons for our arrival here.
Azerbaijan is a very friendly country. There are very good bilateral relations between Mexico and Azerbaijan. I truly come to Azerbaijan frequently. I have also visited here several times during my years as ambassador to Iran. However, this time, as I said, I have come with my team to work in Baku and to support the Mexican community in Iran. We hope that this situation we are currently observing will soon find a peaceful resolution".
It should be noted that earlier this evening, 7 diplomats from Mexico and their family members were evacuated through the border crossing point.
