Although the newly elected leader of Iran, 56-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei, was chosen as the supreme leader in the March 9 elections, he has not yet appeared in public since the start of military operations. Although it was stated yesterday that he would address the nation live, it was later reported that this was disinformation.
Modern.az, citing Iranian media, reports that the reason for the new Supreme Leader's non-appearance became known yesterday. State television reported that Mojtaba Khamenei was wounded during the "Ramadan War," referring to the ongoing conflict with the US and Israel.
"In the Iranian state television report on Khamenei's appointment as Supreme Leader, it was stated that he was wounded in the war. In the news bulletin, Mojtaba Khamenei was presented as a 'canbaz,' meaning a person wounded during wartime."
Details regarding how he was wounded have not been disclosed. Mojtaba Khamenei's father, Supreme Leader Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and his wife were killed on the first day of the conflict, February 28, as a result of Israeli strikes on Tehran. There are reports that Mojtaba was wounded during that incident. Other sources, however, claim that he was not wounded and has not appeared in public for security reasons, associating his presentation as a 'canbaz' with injuries he sustained during the Iran-Iraq War.
It is noted that Mojtaba Khamenei speaks English fluently, has a degree in psychology, and possesses good knowledge in politics, modern technology, military science, and security issues.
It should be recalled that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a US-Israeli air attack on Tehran on February 28. He had served as Iran's Supreme Leader since 1989. On March 9, the country's Assembly of Experts decided to appoint his son, 56-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei, as the new leader.
