Europe's abandonment of nuclear energy was a strategic mistake.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that this was admitted by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
According to her, since 1990, the European Union has halved its nuclear energy production, reducing it to 15 percent.
“I think that reducing the share of nuclear energy was a conscious choice. However, Europe's abandonment of a reliable, accessible, and low-emission energy source was a strategic mistake,” she stated at the nuclear energy summit held in France.
In addition, von der Leyen proposed a new European strategy for the development of small modular nuclear reactors in Europe.
She noted that such reactors could be commissioned in Europe in the early 2030s.
