The Tbilisi Court of Appeals has upheld the verdict issued against Georgia's former president Mikheil Saakashvili concerning the embezzlement of state funds.
Modern.az reports that the TV channel "TV Pirveli" disseminated information about this.
The court did not change the decision of the Tbilisi City Court. According to that decision, Saakashvili and his former head of security Teimuraz Janashia must pay 9 million lari (approximately 3.3 million dollars) to the state budget.
According to the investigation's information, Saakashvili incurred personal expenses using state funds during his presidency. According to allegations, jackets and coats were purchased with those funds, expensive watches were acquired, cosmetic procedures were performed, airplanes and expensive cars were rented, and his son's tuition fees were also paid. This case is known in Georgia as the "jackets case".
