Iran has threatened world markets with a serious energy crisis.

According to **Modern.az**, Ibrahim Zolfaqari, a representative of the country's military leadership, stated that if the security situation in the region does not change, oil prices could rise to $200 per barrel.

It should be noted that Iranian forces opened fire on several commercial vessels near the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, a cargo ship sailing under the Thai flag caught fire and was damaged, crew members were evacuated, and three people are reported missing. Furthermore, it is noted that other vessels sailing under the flags of Japan and the Marshall Islands were also damaged by projectiles.

According to the information, the number of commercial vessels damaged in the region since the start of the war has reached 14. The disruption of safe passage in the Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most serious supply risks for global energy markets since the 1970s oil crisis.

The International Energy Agency has proposed releasing 400 million barrels of oil from global strategic reserves to stabilize the situation. Nevertheless, experts state that the closure of the strait could have a serious impact on global oil supply.

Although oil prices currently remain around $90, Iranian officials emphasize that the world economy could face a severe shock if the war in the region prolongs.
