Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the Communist Party of Russia, warned that the war in the Middle East could pose a threat to Russia in the future.
Modern.az reports that during his speech at the State Duma meeting, he stated that in the US strategy, the main rivals are listed as China first by Donald Trump, then Russia, and Iran in third place. According to Zyuganov, Iran is currently the country “fighting for survival,” and he claimed that Russia's turn could come in the future.
The communist leader assessed US policy as “aggression and lack of principles” and stated that Washington's planned “blitzkrieg” against Iran had failed, and calculations that Tehran would quickly surrender had not materialized.
Zyuganov also said that the war had led to severe consequences for the region. According to him, the fighting damaged infrastructure and desalination plants, which created water and food problems.
It should be recalled that US and Israeli military operations against Iran began on February 28. Washington announced that the purpose of this operation was to destroy Iran's nuclear program. In response, Iran is carrying out attacks on Israel and US military bases located in the Middle East.
