The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the country's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was injured.

The Ministry also emphasized that his health is good.

Modern.az reports that Esmail Baqai, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, told “Corriere della Sera” that there is currently no information on when Khamenei will address the public.

Esmail Baqai also stated that "three or four individuals were vying for the position of the new Supreme Leader, but the majority in the Assembly of Experts chose him".

A day earlier, “The New York Times” newspaper, citing sources, had also reported that Mojtaba Khamenei was injured on February 28 – the first day of the US and Israeli attack on Iran. It was claimed that for this reason, he had not appeared in public, as well as for security reasons. However, sources emphasized that the Supreme Leader was conscious and feeling well. Shortly after this information was disseminated, Youssef Pezeshkian, the son of the Iranian president and a government advisor, also stated that Mojtaba Khamenei's health was good.

“Reuters” later reported, according to the agency's sources, that the Iranian Supreme Leader was lightly injured but continues his work. He is believed to have sustained a leg injury.

Mojtaba Khamenei was elected on February 28, 2026, to replace his father, Ali Khamenei, who died on the first day of the war.

Mojtaba Khamenei, who was elected Supreme Leader on March 8, has not yet addressed the Iranian people or issued any written statement.
