US President Donald Trump made harsh statements regarding Iran.
Modern.az reports that, according to information published by the "Axios" publication, citing G7 officials, Trump voiced these opinions during the G7 leaders' online meeting held on March 11.
According to the information, the US President told the leaders that "Iran is about to surrender" and claimed that there was no authorized person in the country who could officially announce such a decision:
"We have gotten rid of the cancer that threatens us all, but no one knows who the leader is in the country. Therefore, there is no official who can declare surrender".
During the meeting, G7 leaders called on the US President to end the war as soon as possible. They particularly emphasized the importance of restoring security in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz, which holds strategic significance for global energy and trade security, in a short period.
In response to the leaders' call, Trump stated that the situation in the strait region had already improved and noted the importance of merchant ships resuming their operations.
