US President Donald Trump made a strong statement regarding Iran.
Modern.az reports that Trump, in a phone interview with Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, stated that the US could provide military escort to oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz if necessary.
“If necessary, we will do it,” Trump noted. Answering a question about whether the US military would be ready to protect tankers passing through the waterway in the context of the conflict with Iran, he stated that he hopes such a step will not be necessary.
“I hope things will go very well. We will see what happens,” the US President added.
Trump also claimed that Iran would face a long-term recovery process after the recent military operations. According to him, the US has already inflicted serious damage on Iran, and it will take years for the country to return to its previous state.
The US President also did not rule out that tougher measures would be taken against Iran in the coming days. “We will strike them very hard within the next week,” Trump stated.
