In the UN Security Council, a resolution condemning Iran's strikes on neighboring countries has been adopted. The document was submitted by Bahrain and supported by 13 member states. Russia and China, however, abstained from the vote.

Modern.az reports that “The Moscow Times” disseminated information about this.

The resolution demands that Tehran immediately cease attacks on neighboring countries, and these actions are assessed as a violation of international law, as well as a serious threat to international security. The vote on the document was held on March 11.

Andrey Kortunov, an expert at the “Valdai” Club, believes that Moscow's non-use of its veto power may be related to its desire not to strain relations with the United States. According to him, Russia did not want to anger Washington on the eve of new trilateral talks regarding Ukraine.

According to “Faridaily” publication, two high-ranking Russian officials close to the Kremlin also confirmed this version. According to sources, Russian President Vladimir Putin views the presence of US President Donald Trump in power as an opportunity for Russia in the Ukraine war.

At the same time, a source in the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for “Vedomosti” newspaper stated that the decision not to use the veto power was made taking into account the position of the countries in the region.

Russia had previously submitted an alternative draft resolution condemning attacks on civilians and infrastructure facilities, calling on all parties to cease violence. However, this document was not adopted as it failed to gather a majority of votes.
