French President Emmanuel Macron called on Israel and Lebanon to start direct talks amid rising tensions in the Middle East and stated his readiness to host possible ceasefire discussions in Paris.
Modern.az reports that the French leader stated this in a post on his X account.
He stated that he had telephone conversations with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. Macron emphasized the importance of preserving Lebanon's stability, noting that “all means must be used to prevent Lebanon from being dragged into chaos.”
The French leader called on the parties to act with restraint to prevent further escalation of tensions in the region. Macron specifically urged the Iranian-backed “Hezbollah” group to refrain from escalation.
At the same time, he called on Israel to refrain from a large-scale offensive and intensive bombing campaign in Lebanese territory. According to Macron, hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes as a result of these attacks.
The French president stated that the Lebanese authorities have already declared their readiness for direct talks with Israel, and it is important to accelerate this process.
Macron emphasized that France is ready to organize talks in Paris to achieve a ceasefire between the parties and will continue its diplomatic efforts to restore stability in the region.
