Trump considers seizing Iranian oil infrastructure on Kharg Island.

Modern.az reports, citing Axios, which in turn cites sources among US officials, that President Donald Trump is considering seizing Iranian oil infrastructure on Kharg Island.

According to these sources, the head of the Washington administration is exploring options to seize Iran's main oil depot on the island. It is noted that such a step would require a US ground operation.

Sources claim that this option could be implemented if tankers remain blockaded in the Persian Gulf. Washington believes that controlling the infrastructure on Kharg Island could deprive Tehran of a significant portion of its oil revenues.

At the same time, the US is concerned about possible retaliatory strikes against Iranian oil facilities in the region. According to one source, no final decision has been made yet, and risks and potential benefits are currently being evaluated.

Earlier, Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), stated that further strikes by the US or Israel on Kharg Island could seriously complicate the situation in global oil markets.

In turn, Donald Trump announced on March 13 that US forces had launched a major strike on military facilities on the island but decided not to destroy the oil infrastructure. However, he warned that he could revoke this decision if Iran or other forces attempted to impede free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
