US President Donald Trump's plan to create a coalition for opening the Strait of Hormuz has practically failed.
Modern.az reports that this was noted in an article by the “Axios” portal.
It was reported that Donald Trump appealed to the European Union and other countries with the aim of creating a coalition for opening the Strait of Hormuz. However, he did not receive a positive response. There are those who view Trump's proposal with skepticism and those who reject it.
The White House sought to involve Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Canada, the Persian Gulf states, and Jordan in the operation to open the Strait of Hormuz. The US also appealed to Japan and South Korea.
The governments of Germany, Italy, and Japan have already rejected the possibility of sending their ships.
French leader Macron did not explicitly say "no," but also did not give his consent.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also does not have an unequivocal answer for Trump. “The Telegraph” newspaper, however, reported that Starmer decided not to send British ships to help open the Strait of Hormuz.
“Politico” reports, citing European diplomats, that relations between the European Union and the US are once again on the brink of a deep crisis due to disagreements over security in the Strait of Hormuz.
European diplomats stated that a full-scale NATO mission in Iran is not yet possible. They indicated that such a decision would require the unanimous support of all allies, and that this would be difficult to achieve.
“Politico” clarified that NATO has not yet received an official request from Washington.
In response to military operations by the US and Israel, Iran announced a blockade of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. This strategically important strait accounted for 15-20% of the world's oil supply and over 30% of liquefied natural gas. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that all ships must obtain Tehran's permission for passage. However, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi later clarified that the strait remains open to all countries except the US and its allies.
