In recent days, information has spread about an increase in cases of foot-and-mouth disease in animals – particularly in large and small-horned cloven-hoofed livestock – in various regions of our country. According to statements from official bodies, preventive measures in the field of animal health are being strengthened across the country.
The spread of this disease has caused alarm among people. However, it is officially noted that there have been no recorded cases of human infection with this disease in the last 30 years.
Foot-and-mouth disease is a serious problem as a highly contagious animal disease, but currently there are no official indications that it poses a major, immediate threat to human health. Preventive measures are being increased, and monitoring in the animal health system is being strengthened. Nevertheless, farmers, animal owners, and the general public should be vigilant, adhere to veterinary-sanitary measures, and take necessary steps to reduce risks for themselves and their farms.
Modern.az reports that pediatrician Tarlan Eyyubov has appealed to people via social media. He urged people not to worry, stating that he sees no reason for panic due to foot-and-mouth disease.
