The African Chovgan Championship, held at the Guards Polo Club field in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, concluded on November 8. The tournament spanned November 5–8 and was marked by exciting matches among four teams from the African continent – Nigeria, Niger, Ghana, and Egypt.
Modern.az reports that on the final day of play, Ghana secured third place by defeating Egypt with a score of 6–1. In the intense final match, Nigeria emerged victorious over Niger with a score of 5–3, claiming the title of African Chovgan Champion.
Based on the results, the final standings were determined as follows:
1st place – Nigeria
2nd place – Niger
3rd place – Ghana
4th place – Egypt
According to the regulations of the World Chovgan Championship to be held in Baku in 2026, the teams of Nigeria and Niger have directly qualified for this competition. This is considered an important step towards the development and international recognition of chovgan in Africa.
The tournament was organized at a high level at the Guards Polo Club (Abuja) field, providing spectators with the opportunity to watch the ancient game of chovgan in a modern sports format.
