The referee of "Qarabağ"'s match against "Eintracht" in the VII round of the UEFA Champions League group stage, Sandro Schärer, was remembered for several controversial decisions during the game. The referee, who overlooked clear fouls against "Qarabağ" players, did not award an 11-meter penalty in one episode and sometimes made decisions in favor of the visitors even when no fouls were committed. However, despite his efforts, the representative of Aghdam showed determination and defeated its opponent 3:2 with a last-minute goal.

Even the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, drew attention to the referee's bias.

"Despite the referee's unfair and biased decisions, justice prevailed. It is not the first time that referees appointed by UEFA try to obstruct Qarabağ's path to victory with their unfair and biased decisions," the head of state said.

It is interesting whether an appeal will be made to UEFA regarding the Swiss referee Sandro Schärer from the Azerbaijani side.

Modern.az contacted the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) to clarify the matter.

AFFA Press Secretary Murad Akhundzada stated that any appeal regarding the referee can only be made by "Qarabağ" Football Club itself:

"It is "Qarabağ" that participates in the club competition in the Champions League. Only the club's own officials can file a complaint."

"Qarabağ"'s Press Secretary Anar Hajiyev, on the other hand, stated that they would make a public announcement if there were any complaints regarding the refereeing of yesterday's match.
