Tonight, the return legs of the UEFA Champions League play-off round will be held. Azerbaijani champion “Qarabağ” will face a difficult match against local “Newcastle” in England.

Unfortunately, the 1:6 defeat recorded at home in the first leg has changed the reality for “Qarabağ”. Overcoming a six-goal difference, especially against an ambitious representative of the English Premier League, is extremely difficult, if not impossible. “Newcastle” possesses fast wingers, physical strength, and a wide squad selection. Playing open football against such a team is very challenging. We witnessed this in the match in Baku.

However, the point is that reaching this stage itself is a great success. “Qarabağ” has been representing our country creditably in European competitions for years, competing in group stages and “play-offs”.

“Qarabağ” has become the face of Azerbaijani football in Europe.

The reality regarding today's match is this: a 6:0 victory is a fantasy. That is, Azerbaijani fans, having come to terms with reality, cannot demand such a victory from “Qarabağ”..

Therefore, the main goal should be a disciplined and reliable game, not emotional, ill-considered attacks.

The goal for “Qarabağ” could be this: to play as reliably as possible, to leave the tournament preserving its reputation. For this, it is important to be careful in defense, to show a compact game in midfield, to make smart decisions in counter-attacks, and to maintain a minimal score difference.

Such a game would both preserve the team's self-confidence and be a worthy farewell gift to the fans.

In Europe, every match is important for the country's ranking, the club's image, and future draws. Recovering after a heavy defeat and showing character on the field is at least as valuable as a victory.

Let's not forget that “Qarabağ” did not reach this point by chance. The team has been systematically built over the years, has gained Eurocup experience, and has played courageous football even in difficult away matches.

Let's also admit that sometimes defeat is part of development.

Undoubtedly, there will be no sensation or miracle from today's “Newcastle” – “Qarabağ” match, but generally everyone wants to see the team's fighting spirit. Our footballers should earn applause regardless of the result by fighting until the last minute.

“Qarabağ” must leave the field with their heads held high... There is enough reason to believe this.

Because a great team becomes great not only when it wins, but also by showing character on a difficult day. This is exactly what we want to see on the field tonight.

For “Qarabağ”, which has written a great history for Azerbaijani football, there is nothing to lose...

Good luck, "Qarabağ"!
