The issue of sports in education has become a problem. The role of sports in secondary and higher education institutions is weak.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Çingiz Hüseynzadə, Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee, during a meeting of the Youth and Sports Committee with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Olympic Committee, and sports federations.
According to the Vice-President of the Committee, globally the concept of “university sports” is widespread.
“For example, in countries like Great Britain and the United States of America, universities are precisely the main development base for sports. University teams exist, inter-university competitions are held, and some sports are primarily formed within educational institutions”.
He noted that sports such as basketball, in particular, have developed through the university system in many countries. Athletics and other team sports are also widely promoted in the higher and secondary education systems. However, in our educational legislation, the status of sports as a core subject and its role as a strategic direction have not been sufficiently emphasized. Yet, sports are not only about physical development but also a part of discipline, team spirit, leadership, and patriotic education.
