An increase in the prices of autumn season fruits is observed, and this situation is linked to several key factors. According to the State Statistical Committee, in August 2025, the consumer price index in Azerbaijan increased by approximately 6.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. This increase is particularly noticeable for food products.

“Although a decrease in prices is usually expected in autumn months due to the abundance of local products, this year, on the contrary, a certain trend of price increase is observed. One of the main reasons is the limitation of supply. Unstable weather conditions, the prolongation of the product ripening period, and difficulties in the logistics chain have reduced the volume of fruits brought to the market. In addition, changes in the balance between import and local production, as well as in the exchange rate, can also affect fruit prices.”

The expert emphasized that, on the other hand, the increase in logistics and production costs is also among the factors influencing price increases:

“The increase in transportation and storage costs due to seasonal changes has directly affected the selling price of fruits. The growing demand for certain fruits in the domestic market is also considered one of the factors deepening the price increase. For example, in the autumn season, interest in fruits rich in Vitamin C – citrus varieties – particularly increases.”

According to our interviewee, changes in global markets and exchange rates are also important factors influencing price formation:

“Disruption of the balance between import and local production, as well as changes in the exchange rate, can also lead to certain price fluctuations.

Currently, specific price increases are observed mainly in citrus fruits, grapes and other juicy fruits, as well as autumn products like apples and quinces. Despite citrus varieties having been on the market for some time, their price per kilogram is around 4-5 manats. Due to increased exports of grapes and similar fruits, the supply in the local market has decreased. Although 'abundance' is expected during the season for fruits like apples and quinces, no significant price reduction has occurred,” A. Nəsirli stated.
