Azerbaijan's agricultural sector is not dependent on Iran.
This was stated by Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov in a statement to Modern.az.
The minister noted that conflicts in Iran could affect logistics issues more than product production.
“However, in terms of the logistics lines on which Azerbaijan depends in the agricultural sector, for example, the import of fertilizers into the country is not carried out via Iran. For this reason, I do not believe that the events will affect prices.”
We previously imported a very small amount of potatoes from Iran; currently, potatoes are produced in Azerbaijan:
“Therefore, I do not expect any significant change in the price of this product either. To discuss this issue in more detail, it is necessary to examine the trade turnover with Iran. If agricultural products are included in the trade turnover, it is important to analyze them separately. For now, we have not received any signal of a significant deviation.”
The minister also spoke about the risks that could arise if the conflict prolongs. M. Mammadov noted that for a product to become more expensive in the market, its price could increase if the supply of that product or the volume brought to the market decreases:
“For a price increase to occur, the circulation of a certain product must decrease. We do not have dependence on Iran in the agricultural sector. Previously, potato imports also included cream imports. That decreased in 2025. It is not a significant volume. Potato production in the country is also sufficient, but logistically, cold storage facilities are not adequate. As more cold storage warehouses are built and these logistical capabilities are provided within the country, there will be no need to import those products from Iran.” – he stated.
