The opening ceremony of the local office of "Euronews" TV channel was held in Baku.
Modern.az reports that Pedro Vargas David, Chairman of the Board of Directors of "Euronews", delivered an opening speech at the event.
During the ceremony, projects implemented by "Euronews" within the framework of cooperation with Azerbaijan were presented.
He noted that the channel has been subjected to pressure due to its balanced stance on Azerbaijan.
“More than 10 years have passed since my first visit to Azerbaijan. During these years, I observed how much Azerbaijan has changed. I should also note that our balanced position towards Azerbaijan was not accepted. Protests were held at the door of our head office. Our journalists were subjected to email attacks.
When “Shusha, Azerbaijan” was written as the location in the news, we received countless emails. They asked us why we described Shusha as a territory within Azerbaijan. We told them that international law recognizes this territory as Azerbaijani land.
Even when an Azerbaijani passenger plane was shot down last December, “Reuters“ was promoting a version of the accident's causes that benefited Russia. We have never done that,” - Pedro Vargas David noted.
The Chairman of the Board highlighted the security of Azerbaijan's airspace during the 12-day Israel–Iran war in June: “If you looked at Flightradar or similar platforms, you would see a large concentration of flights coming from two sides – east and west – for all planes traveling from Europe to Asia and beyond, there was only one safe option.
This safe option was possible by using Azerbaijani airspace and conducting transit through that airspace. I was in Baku that day and I well remember the number of planes that made emergency landings here because they ran out of fuel and could not go in another direction. And this is not only during times of difficulty and problems. Azerbaijan is a solution that exists every day for our energy, supply, and future. It is a secular country. It is a rapidly developing country. It has industry and important resources. It is full of self-confidence”.
At the event, the "Eurasia Talks" program, which included interviews with leaders from Central Asian and South Caucasus countries about the main political, economic, and social processes affecting the region's relations with Europe, was showcased.
The opening of an office by Europe's most famous channel in Azerbaijan is considered one of our country's greatest achievements in the media sector over the last 5 years.
