In 2026 a common currency for Turkic states should be created.
Modern.az reports that these words were spoken by Journalist, Chairman of the International Press Confederation and founder of the Turkic World Media and Communication Union (TÜRKBİR), Şakir Gürel, answering the questions of presenter Serdar Şengül in the program “Net Baxış 360 Dərəcə” broadcast on "MediaTürk TV".
Ş. Gürel stated in his speech that 2026 should be an important turning point for the Turkic world. According to him, Turkic states should unite economically, and a common currency unit should be immediately put into circulation. Gürel emphasized the importance of starting to mint a new common Turkic currency within this year.
Stating that a common currency unit would bring Turkic states to a stronger position in the global economic arena, Gürel also touched upon international examples. Reminding that the USA united with a single currency and Europe created an economic union with the euro, Gürel noted that a currency union also exists in the countries of the United Kingdom.
“I hope that the minting of a common Turkic currency will begin within this year, and this step will significantly increase the economic power of the Turkic world,” said Şakir Gürel.
