The duties of the Internal Troops are being increased.
According to **Modern.az**, this issue is reflected in the draft law “On the Internal Troops of the Republic of Azerbaijan” which was discussed at today's meeting of the Milli Majlis Committee on Defense, Security and Anti-Corruption.
According to the new draft law, the Internal Troops, in accordance with their areas of activity, participate in the protection of objects guarded by state bodies (institutions);
repelling attacks on objects they guard, as well as searching for and apprehending persons who have illegally entered the territory of such objects;
protection of material-technical, as well as military supply warehouses and bases of the p (institution) determined by the relevant executive authority;
neutralization and destruction of explosive devices and substances discovered during the performance of official duties, as well as on the instructions of the head of the p (institution) determined by the relevant executive authority.
The Internal Troops carry out their duties in cooperation with the p (institution) determined by the relevant executive authority in the following cases:
during the protection of public order, as well as ensuring public safety during mass events;
during the prevention of mass riots and group violations of public order;
during the neutralization of illegal armed formations, terrorist organizations and terrorist groups, as well as persons offering armed resistance and carrying out armed attacks;
during the ensuring of the legal regime of special operation zones conducted against religious extremism and terrorism;
during the prevention of mass riots in penitentiary institutions;
during the liberation of hostages, seized buildings and other structures, installations, territories, and vehicles;
during the prevention of the seizure and hijacking of civil air or water transport vehicles, or railway trains;
during the ensuring of the state of emergency or martial law regime, and the elimination of the consequences of situations that led to the imposition of a state of emergency, as well as a social emergency environment;
during the defense of the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, if involved.
During the joint activities of the Internal Troops and internal affairs bodies, when the duties of police officers are assigned to the Internal Troops, the duties of a police officer as defined by the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Police” apply to them.
The execution of the lawful demands of military personnel of the Internal Troops related to the performance of their assigned duties is mandatory.
